Prostějov, 30 October 2008 --- MICOS becomes a member of the international association FTTH Council Europe.
FTTH (Fibre-To-The-Home) Council is a non-profit organisation helping and supporting its members in the area of planning, marketing, implementation, and administration of FTTH solutions. FTTH Council aims at speeding up the building of optical fibre networks towards European consumers. FTTH Council believes that the development and use of optical fibres allowing to use broadband connection to data networks will contribute to increase the citizens’ quality of life, and will provide European countries with the necessary infrastructure to enable individuals and companies increase their effectiveness and competitiveness on the global market.
FTTH Council Europe gathers over 80 important companies possessing a high technological level in the area of broadband communications and having a long-term experience with the deployment of complex solutions on the quickly developing broadband market. Members of the association include authorities, developers, and traditional and non-traditional service providers sharing their knowledge and experience with respect to the key issues of FTTH development. These organisations also provide professional consultancy to governments and service providers, delivering high-quality services to citizens, investor, and customers.
Ing. Leoš Kalandra, Director of Telcom Division of MICOS says:
“The fact that we have become a member of this international association will allow us to participate to a greater extent in different European projects in the area of FTTH, to take advantage of synergic effects, experience, knowledge and influence of the other members, and to contribute with our own knowledge to speeding up the development of optical networks in Europe, where their share is very small. I am convinced that the FTTH concept is the best solution for information companies of the 21st century. Besides facilitating a quick development of new services in all areas of life of a modern society, the building and operation of these networks, as compared to classic copper networks, also has a positive impact on the environment.
In accordance with a study conducted by Price Waterhouse Coopers, the transport and maintenance costs incurred while building this type of network are lower, the same as energy consumption. The study expresses total savings per one participant for 15 years of operation as an equivalent of the reduction of CO2 emission by 330 kg, which represents, for example, 2000 km covered driving a standard car. Therefore, besides other advantages brought about by fibre optics, we will participate in the reduction of negative impacts on the nature and on the environment caused by intensive industrial development.”
