Micos Telcom Division - distribution boxes for telecommunications, fiber optic, and data networks

MICOS Extends its Optical Switches Portfolio with FiberZone Networks Inc.

Prostějov, 15 September 2009 --- MICOS, spol. s r.o. – TELCOM Division, a leading Czech manufacturer of passive elements for optical and copper telecommunication and information networks, data cabinets, EMC products and special-purpose equipment under the UNIVERSAL COLONNADE trade name, has begun offering optical switches made by FiberZone Networks Inc.

In mid-August MICOS, spol. s r.o. and FiberZone Networks Inc. concluded an agreement in which MICOS will be delivering FiberZone optical switches to customers in the European Union countries.

FiberZone Automated Fiber Management (AFM) products are based on the LOCTM (Latched Optical Coupling) technology, the first to deliver remote control and automation to the fiber infrastructure while maintaining the attributes and reliability of a manual patch panel.

AFM are used for automatic administration and management of the optical fiber physical infrastructure in commercial telecommunication and data networks and mission-critical security and defense platforms.

AFM-360 provides non-blocking, physical-layer interconnection of 180x180 optical ports. The LOCTM-based AFM-360 is characterized by a very low optical attenuation, guarantees connection reliability without any dependence on active components, and is entirely transparent to communication protocols, wavelengths, transmission speeds and different optical fiber types.

The AFM technology is flexible and scalable for use in large-capacity systems of symmetric and asymmetric architectures.

FiberZone optical switches allow users to:

·         Control and reconfigure optical connections and services rapidly, remotely, and  automatically, thereby reducing high cost labor and enabling network operators to respond quickly to changes in demand.

·         Generate new revenue streams through on-demand and time-of-day provisioning.

·         Provision new customers in seconds, enabling immediate revenue generation.

·         Perform remote management, maintenance and troubleshooting, thereby ensuring fewer network outages, minimizing truck rolls and increasing quality of service.

·         Document all operations and identify fiber ports automatically, thereby minimizing human  error.

·         Minimize network downtime and reduce service level agreement  (SLA) penalties

“Thanks to automated and remote management of the optical network, the FiberZone products considerably speed up the return on investment in the construction of optical networks and their subsequent operation, thus enabling the operators to reduce the cost of network configuration changes, troubleshooting and servicing interventions requiring, up to now, the presence of an engineer or expert staff”, stated Ing. Leoš Kalandra, TELCOM Division Director of MICOS.

“If you consider how substantial is the share of the optical network administration and operational costs in the total costs for the erection of such a network, taking into account the ever falling price of products for remote administration of optical networks, such as FiberZone, I believe that precisely these technologies are a way for cost optimisation in the operation of optical networks and for the maximization of profit“, added Mr Kalandra.

“We are honored to have MICOS as our partner serving customers in the EU,” said Avigdor Shlomovitz, VP Customer Services, FiberZone Networks. “MICOS serves major end-users and has and strong market share. There is a great fit between MICOS, FiberZone AFM, and the requirements in the EU. MICOS‘s decision to partner with us validates both the market potential and the suitability of our solution.”
